The Hangover Run

January 1, 2012

Noon

3 K

5787 Sunnyview Rd NE

Salem, OR

This is the first race of the new year for Run Wild Adventures. The name pretty much says it all. A cross country race with gravel, grass, and dirt trails, it's flat and fast.

In addition, there will be a New Year's Day Beer Mile after the event.

White River Snowshoe

January 22, 2012, 10:00am

8K in snow

White River West Snow Park, Mt. Hood, OR

X-Dog kicks off their season with the oldest and largest snowshoe race in the west. This has everything, from serious competitiors and national qualifiers to first-time running-in-the-snow-ers. Renting snowshoes for the day is cheap, so this is the opportunity to give it a try and kick-start your training.

Willamette Mission Trail Challenge

January 28, 2012, 9:00am

5K and 10K trail run

Willamette Mission State Park
10991 Wheatland Rd. NE, Salem, OR

Very tasty. Mostly flat, 90% trail, and just enough slick in the mud to make things interesting. Pastoral trails in the park along the river in hop country.

Here's a peek at the course with the Garmin.

Willamette Mission Trail Challenge

 Buck Mountain Mudslinger Trail Run

March 24, 2012

9:00am

6.5 miles

Howard Creek at Silver Falls State Park

20024 Silver Falls Hwy SE, Silverton, OR

Once again, Run Wild Adventures promises did not disappoint. The course will ran backwards from last year, and again featured the cowboy theme, with a few cowgirls. It also featured 4 to 18 inches of snow.

Dirty Du and Dirt Dash

April 8, 2012

10:00am

Duathlon: 5M trail run, 15M mountain bike

The Dirt Dash: 5M trail run

Boat Ramp C

Henry Hagg Lake, south of Forest Grove

This course makes the best usage of the trail around Hagg Lake. The bike portion is one complete loop, with lots of brown slide and technical stuff. The trail run portion uses only the best sections for running, especially above Sain Creek and below Boat Ramp C. There's about 15% on paved areas to get you from one slab of mud to the next.

Monument Peak

15K Trail Run

April 21, 2012

9:00am

Santiam Horse Camp at Monument Peak

Gates, OR

Run Wild Adventures ends their 2011 - 2012 season with this bad boy. The Second Annual, they invite you to camp the night before if you want some extra fun. Very scenic, and check out this elevation chart.

Havoc at the Hideout

May 13, 2012, 10:00am

6 mile trail run

Hornings Hideout

North Plains, OR

Peacocks pepper this pastoral basin, a private park with circles of great single-track. Lots of camping this weekend, with the race on Sunday and the Crossfit Classic, hosted by Beaverton Crossfit, all day Saturday.

Pine Hollow Paddle

June 2, 2012

Stand Up Paddle and Kayak

Pine Hollow Lakeside Resort
Wamic, OR

The first annual event, this takes advantage of the pristine Pine Hollow Reservoir, adding to the Pine Hollow Tri weekend festivities. Come out and stay the whole weekend.

Pine Hollow

Pine Hollow Tri

June 3, 2012, 9:00am

Sprint Triathlon and

Pumice Man

Pine Hollow Lakeside Resort
Wamic, OR

This is the only triathlon in this calendar because it's that good. The course has a natural simplicty, the venue has a rare beauty, and the atmosphere rises above the mere mechanical assimilation. In short, it's a triathlon that's actually fun, while also being a challenging and genuine USAT sanctioned, locally-owned race. The Sprint Triathlon is a 750 meter swim, 15K bike, 5K run. The Pumice Man is the same course as the Sprint, done twice. An Aussie Double triathlon, it's a swim, bike, run, swim, bike, run, totaling a 1.5K swim, 30K bike, 10K run.

Mt Hood Scramble

June 17, 2012

6 mile run

White River Sno Park
Mt Hood, OR

This is the original scramble in the Northwest, the one that started it all. X-Dog's biggest event, it also sells out the quickest. The course changes a bit from year to year due to natural changes in the terrain, and this provides welcome surprises. Altitude plus lots of rocks, sand, and mountain river crossings, plus crashing through the forest and maybe a glacier glissade or two makes for a memorable time.

Mt Hood Scramble

McCubbin's Gulch Scramble

July 16, 2012

5 mile run

McCubbin's Gulch Rec Area
Bear Springs, OR

The biggest camping event of the year, as most of Sunday's participants spend Saturday and Saturday night taking in the atmosphere. Could it be because of the barbecue? the late night bingo? or perhaps the Creek Streak? The scramble does not dissapoint, complete with a signature creek finish.

Timberline Mt Run

August 5, 2012, 10:00am

6-8 mile mountain run

 Timberline Lodge

Mt. Hood, OR

Timberline Trail Running Club has taken over the Great NW Mt Run for X-Dog Events, renaming it the Timberline Mt Run. The route changed slightly last year because of construction, but here is a Garmin map of the 2011 course.

The race will cover 6 to 8 miles of diverse and challenging terrain including roads, trail, and natural mountain slopes. There will be some significant elevation gain and loss. There will be one water aid station on the course (weather and access permitting) located approximately half-way, at the turn-around at the top.

Race check-in and registration starts at 8:30am upstairs, on the outside patio of the Wy'East Day Lodge.

Tillamook Burn

August 12, 2012, 10:00am

6 mile trail run

Wood Fire Farms

Pacific City, OR

Another camping favorite, the pre-race festivity includes the short bus, a stage, and a rather special hula-hoop contest. It's called the burn because of what you'll feel in your legs when you hit those steep hills. Last year there was one aid station that provided Red Hook to the thirsty.

Sagebrush Skedaddle

September 2, 2012, 10:00am

6 mile adventure race

 Bearly There Ranch
Redmond, OR

Labor Day weekend, Saturday is the Crossfit Challenge and Sunday is the Skedaddle. Stay Friday through Monday if you like. For free, of course. The Bearly There Ranch is decked out in the finest Old West tradition. Last year the kids' run finished at an authentic pirate ship at the pond. Sun during the day, bonfire at night.

Ole's Assault

September 16, 2012

2-Hour Adventure Race

Astoria, Oregon

Filled with natural and man-made obstacles, this is one of the toughest races around. This is about 7 miles, most of which is wet, coastal, jungle forest. There's plenty of mud in some technical single-track trail, plus barbed wire to go under, nets and wooden walls to go over, and a hundred or so trees and logs to go over, under and through.

Multnomah Falls Trail Run

September 29, 2012

5.6 mile Race: 8:30am

5.6 mile Walk: 7:30am

Wahkeena Falls Trailhead

Historic Columbia River Hwy near Corbett, OR

Pure incline enjoyment. This race features Multnomah, Weisendanger, Ecola, Fairy and Wahkeena Falls, five of the most photographed falls in the Gorge. Space is limited to 100 participants, so it will sell out. There is no registration the day of the event, and if you want to purchase the coveted long-sleeve tech race shirt, you can only do so by you registering before August 31.

Multnomah Falls

The Great Pumpkin

 October 7, 2012, 10:00am

Cross Country 5K

Heiser Farms

Dayton, OR

Start the holiday season with a bang with three huge pumpkin cannons. Beer, brats, live bluegrass, and fun for kids, including hayrides, train rides, a corn maze, and more. The XC race is Sunday, Day Two of the events at Heiser Farms, which takes advantage of Saturday's OBRA's cycle-cross race course.

Silver Falls Trail Half Marathon

November 5, 2011

13.1M

 Silver Falls State Park

"South Falls Day Use"

Silverton, OR

Beautiful. This is a fine combination of some quick and flat paved and dirt paths and some challenging trail running. The course involves 10 falls, and runs under at least 3. Look for a full Marathon course in addition to the Half in 2012. And if you're lucky, you might even find beer on the course. Garmin Map

Kevin's Cup

November 10, 2012

8K Trail Run

Mary S. Young State Park
West Linn, OR

This is the race that started it all. For 20 years and counting, Kevin has been creating the best courses and some of the region's most epic events. The race favors the speedy, as most of the park is flat, with a little shiggy thrown in, but Pace Dudes and Pace Babes will ensure that the non-speedy will not be left behind. Post-race festivities include pizza, beer, and truly original prizes.

Shellburg Falls Trail Run

December 3, 2011

9:00am

7 miles

Shellburg Falls

Lyons, OR

This has some great single track, some of it very speedy despite the climbing. And, the course runs behind Shellburg Falls. Pack this one into your holiday season.

Shelburg Falls

Ho Ho Run

December 9, 2012

5K

Cook Park
Tigard, OR

It's Xmastime, and there's no better way to get some Festivus than a race that offers Hostess Ho Ho's and Snowballs. All paved trails in a pleasant urban setting, the race starts and ends at the Cook Park shelter where there will be soup, hot drinks, and an evergreen seedling.
